State League 2009
Heidelberg Men at Good Neighbour
After taking out the Victorian State League championship in a convincing 3-0 win over Falcons, the Honours Men entered the Good Neighbour tournament in Canberra on November 27-29 with the view of testing themselves against the best club teams in the country. Unfortunately, teams from SA and QLD chose not to enter, making the competition essentially a two horse race between Heidelberg and the AIS (who sported a few current Australian representatives)
In the round matches, the AIS struggled to keep up with Heidelberg’s fast-paced game and Heidelberg won 2-1. This was the only match that the AIS lost and Heidelberg went undefeated in the round matches. In the final, however, the advantage of superior recovery and analysis gave the AIS the jump, taking the gold medal 3-0.

Heidelberg Mens vs Tian Jin Polytechnic University.

Congratulations to Michael and the Heidelberg Mens Honors team for the match they played on Monday 3rd August against Tian Jin Polytechnic University from China.
The high standard of the game and the professional manner in which it was played was a great credit to Michael, the players and the club.
Played in front of a good spectator crowd at Melbourne Uni, Heidelberg won the match 3 – 0. Coady’s captaincy was exemplary and while aftermatch comments were about the quality of team spirit and teamwork everyone seemed agreed that Roger’s performance was a stand-out one!
After the game, teams shook hands exchanged gifts.

Eric Hayman Cup 2008
The Heidelberg Men’s hosted the Eric Hayman Cup, which was played over two venues (Trinity Grammar in Kew and State Volleyball Centre in Dandenong).
The tournament is named in honour of Eric Hayman, who play an important role in Volleyball’s grow in Australia.
Eric Hayman elected to the board of the Victorian Amateur Volleyball Association (VAVA) in the 1970’s . Volleyball continued to grow under his leadership and it wasn’t long until he was elected as Chairman of the Australian Volleyball Federation (AVF).
Eric spent a lot of his own time and money meeting with international bodies and was very well respected in Australian and international volleyball circles. He also established a Fricsons Trust Fund (named after another volleyball legend Argods Fricsons) to provide significant financial support for junior volleyballers in Victoria. Eric also appointed Australia’s first professional volleyball employee, our club president Tomas Santamaria. Eric died peacefully of cancer July 20, 2002 (aged 85).
