A letter from the Vice President to Past and Present players....

Dear past and present players,

Heidelberg Volleyball Club will officially celebrate its 40th year this year

It is the clubs intention to recognise your past involvement through a number of initiatives:
1. Setting up a club history page on this website to include photo's and results of teams past,
2. Establishing a page on this website dedicated to the individual achievements of each player (past and present)
3. Celebrate the clubs 40th year in style with a mid year reunion ball of a grand scale.
4. Maintain contact with you in years to come as we head towards 50 years
5. Invite you to be involved with the club at whatever level you wish.

We have no idea how many ex Heidelbergers are out there so, as a starting point, we would like to invite as many past players and coaches to a gathering at:

The Rooftop bar at the Arcadia Hotel
2 Toorak Road South Yarra
Wednesday 3 February
From 7.30pm to 10.00pm

The Arcadia Hotel is the "Naughtons of the noughties", and the hotel continues to be a great supporter of the club.

The aim of the evening is to not only start the ball rolling in preparation for the 40th anniversary celebration but to also regale in tales of past glory ("the older I get the better I was" type stories), and to catch up with people who have meant a lot to us over the years.

If you are able to get along please do so (drinks at bar prices). We won't be catering but the hotel does cater with evening meals or snacks.

If you are unable to make Wednesday 3 February, but still interested in receiving information about the plans for the 40th anniversary celebration and the other initiatives, please drop me an email jennybeckerheidelberg@hotmail.com, or leave a message on the home phone on 03 93627272.

Would you also be so kind as to pass this onto any ex Heidelberger you are in contact with, be they here in Melbourne, interstate or overseas. Download a printable version here.

Hope to see as many of you as possible at Arcadia on Wednesday 3 February.

Jenny Becker
Vice President
Heidelberg Volleyball Club

Heidelberg Men at Good Neighbour

After taking out the Victorian State League championship in a convincing 3-0 win over Falcons, the Honours Men entered the Good Neighbour tournament in Canberra on November 27-29 with the view of testing themselves against the best club teams in the country. Unfortunately, teams from SA and QLD chose not to enter, making the competition essentially a two horse race between Heidelberg and the AIS (who sported a few current Australian representatives)

In the round matches, the AIS struggled to keep up with Heidelberg’s fast-paced game and Heidelberg won 2-1. This was the only match that the AIS lost and Heidelberg went undefeated in the round matches. In the final, however, the advantage of superior recovery and analysis gave the AIS the jump, taking the gold medal 3-0.

For photos from the Good Neighbour tournament, visit the 2009 photos page.
